There have been 3,197 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases up to 735,745. There were 11 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,679. The PHW latest infection rate, based on the seven days up to January 8 is 1,492.4 cases for every 100,000 people which is down on the 1,595.6 recorded on Wednesday. The highest infection rate showing in the local authorities for the seven days between January 2 and January 8 was Neath Port Talbot with 1,893 per 100,000 followed by Blaenau Gwent with 1,756.3 and Caerphilly with 1,671.7.
Hywel Dda Health Board shows 358
cases reported today with 254 in Carmarthenshire, 65 in
Pembrokeshire and 39 in Ceredigion. As of January 12 there were 1,159 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus
(confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 1,144 on January 11.
