Good news today... Infection rates in Wales are falling...we need them to go down...down...down...

There have been 2,886 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases up to 732,548. There were 14 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,668The PHW latest infection rate, based on the seven days up to January 7 (the day after the rule change was introduced), is 1,595.6  which is down as would be expected on the 1,780.5 recorded on Tuesday. The local authority showing the highest rate for the seven days between January 1 and January 7 was Neath Port Talbot with 2,020.7 per 100,000 followed by Blaenau Gwent with 1,912.3 and Rhondda Cynon Taf with 1,788.9.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 292 cases reported today with 181 in Carmarthenshire, 72 in Pembrokeshire and 39 in Ceredigion. As of January 11 there were 1,144 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 1,094 on January 10.
