There have been 11,693 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases up to 727,486. There were 16 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,650. The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the seven days up to January 5 is 1,997.1 a welcome drop on 2,214.6 recorded on Sunday. The infection rate continues to fall. The local authority showing the highest rate for the seven days between December 30 and January 5 was Blaenau Gwent with 2,467.7 per 100,000, followed by Neath Port Talbot with 2,401.7 and Rhondda Cynon Taf with 2,341.8.
Hywel Dda Health Board case rate has risen again 1,178 cases reported today with 669 in Carmarthenshire, 310 in Pembrokeshire and 199 in Ceredigion. As of January 7 there were 988 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 955 on January 6.
