Case numbers a lot less today...but there has been a lower number of tests carried out and this may be the reason...

There have been 2,176 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases up to 729,662. There were 4 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,654The data today from PHW are the results of just 5265 tests. 

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the seven days up to January 6 is 1,780.5 a significant drop on the 1,997.1 recorded on Monday. The infection rate has now fallen for three days in a row. For more information on the Covid figures released on Tuesday go to Wales Online...

The local authority showing the highest rate for the seven days between December 31 and January 6 was Neath Port Talbot with 2,246.1 per 100,000 followed by Blaenau Gwent with 2,174.3 and Merthyr Tydfil with 2,073.7.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 201 cases reported today with 112 in Carmarthenshire, 55 in Pembrokeshire and 34 in Ceredigion. As of January 10 there were 1,094 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 988 on January 7.
