There
have been 7,915 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 706,873. There
were 21 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of
deaths now has risen to 6,626.
The
latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the seven days up to
January 2, has risen to 2,324.6 up
from 2,228.5 recorded yesterday. This is the highest figure at any stage of the pandemic. For more information on the Covid figures

Infection rates in each local authority have gone up again. The highest rate in Wales for the seven days between December 27 and January 2 was Blaenau Gwent with 3,085.7 per 100,000, followed by Rhondda Cynon Taf with 2,981, and Merthyr Tydfil with 2,932.4.
Hywel Dda Health Board shows 495 cases reported today with 368 in Carmarthenshire, 102 in Pembrokeshire and 25 in Ceredigion. As of January 6 there were 955 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 920 reported on January 5.
