There
have been 9,213 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW
bringing the total cases to 698,962. There were 6 coronavirus
deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,605.
The
latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the seven days up to
January 1, has risen to 2,228.5 up
from 2,133.4 recorded yesterday. This is the highest figure at any stage of the pandemic. For more information on the Covid figures

Infection rates in each local authority have risen. The highest rate in Wales for the seven days between December 26 and January 1 was Blaenau Gwent with 2,945.8 per 100,000, followed by Merthyr Tydfil with 2,902.6, and Rhondda Cynon Taf with 2,884.4.
Hywel Dda Health Board shows 977cases reported today with 553 in Carmarthenshire, 285 in Pembrokeshire and 139 in Ceredigion. As of January 5 there were 920 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 894 reported on January 4.
