Record numbers in a single day in Wales reported today... Tough new restrictions announced from Boxing Day...

There have been 4,662 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 566,995. There were coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number today has gone up to to 6,525. The infection rate in Wales has risen again to 609.7 per 100,000 people a substantial jump on the 575 reported on Tuesday.  For more information on the Covid figures released on Wednesday go to Wales Online... 

The areas in Wales with the highest infection rates today are Anglesey with 830.9 cases per 100,000 people followed by Cardiff with 748.2 and Vale of Glamorgan with 718.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 465 cases reported today with 210 in Carmarthenshire, 153 in Pembrokeshire and 102 in Ceredigion. As of December 21, there were 436 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 431 last reported on December 20.
