Numbers run past the 10,000 mark today...many counties in Wales report high infection rates...

There have been 12,378 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 594,753. There were 3 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,551. Today's infection rate in Wales has rocketed to 1,004.1 per 100,000 people an extremely big increase on the 724.9 reported on Boxing Day.  For more information on the Covid figures released on Tuesday go to Wales Online...

The area in Wales with the highest infection rates is still Cardiff with 1,335.5 cases per 100,000 while Newport, Anglesey, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Ceredigion, and Swansea all have rates in excess of 1,000.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 1,134 cases reported today with 477 in Carmarthenshire, 397 in Pembrokeshire and 260 in Ceredigion. As of December 22, there were 444 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 436 last reported the day before. These figures will not be updated until December 30.
