Infection rates are climbing fast...The rate in Cardiff has more than doubled in a single week...2022 looks like having a bleak start...


There have been 5,335 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 582,378.  There were 3 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths in Wales has now risen to 6,548. The infection rate has also risen very sharply to 724.9 per 100,000 people quite a jump on the 662.3 reported on Christmas Eve.  For more information on the Covid figures released on Boxing Day go to Wales Online...


The areas in Wales with the highest infection rates have not changed since Christmas Eve leading with Cardiff with 1,017.4 cases per 100,000 people followed by Anglesey with 969.4 and Vale of Glamorgan with 850.4 cases per 100,000 people. Hywel Dda Health Board shows 492 cases reported today with 235 in Carmarthenshire, 156 in Pembrokeshire and 101 in Ceredigion. As of December 22, there were 444 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 436 last reported the day before.
