There
have been 5,929 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW
bringing the total cases to 600,682. There were 2 coronavirus
deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,553. The
infection rate today in Wales has gone up to 1,079.3 per 100,000 people an increase
on the 1,004.1 reported on Tuesday. This is the highest figure at any stage of the pandemic.

The area in Wales with the highest infection rates is still Cardiff with 1,339.8 cases per 100,000 while Newport, Torfaen, Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Ceredigion, and Swansea all have rates in excess of 1,000.
Hywel Dda Health Board shows 329 cases reported today with 168 in Carmarthenshire, 92 in Pembrokeshire and 69 in Ceredigion. As of December 22, there were 444 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 436 last reported the day before. These figures will not be updated until December 30.
