No deaths reported today...Cases still rising along with the new variant Omicron taking hold...

There have been 2,889 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 546,573. There were coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths stays at 6,501. The infection rate in Wales now stands at 500.7 per 100,000 people a slight rise on the 499.8 reported on Wednesday.  For more information on the Covid figures released on Thursday go to Wales Online...

The area with the highest infection rate is Anglesey with 708.1 cases per 100,000 people followed by Wrexham with 619.3 and Denbighshire with 607.1 per 100,000 people. Hywel Dda Health Board shows 253 cases reported today with 147 in Carmarthenshire, 60 in Pembrokeshire and 46 in Ceredigion.

As of December 15, there were 476 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a fall on the 495 reported on December 14.
