The latest update from Public Health Wales (PHW) has recorded 663 more positive cases to bring the total since the pandemic began to 222,448. There were no additional Covid deaths reported, meaning the overall total remains at 5,578. Wales' infection rate has risen to 109.6 cases per 100,000 people based on the seven days between June 26 and July 2 up from 103.2 on Tuesday.
Every local authority, apart from Cardiff, reported a rise in infection rate when compared to the seven-day period between June 25 and July 1. Half of Wales' local authorities are now reporting more than 100 positive cases per 100,000 people.
The area with the highest infection rate in Wales is Wrexham
with 254.5 cases per 100,000 people, up from 230.2 cases on Tuesday. This is
followed by Flintshire with 215.9 and Denbighshire with 164.1. The percentage
of tests coming back positive across Wales over the last week is now 6%, up
from 5.8% reported on Tuesday. Wrexham has almost double this at a rate of
11.5%.
Betsi Cadwaladr UHB had the most with 37,
followed by Cardiff and Vale UHB with 33, Aneurin Bevan UHB with 29, Cwm Taf
Morgannwg with 17, Hywel Dda UHB with 4 and Swansea Bay UHB with 1.
