The latest update from Public Health Wales (PHW)
recorded 698 more positive cases to
bring the total since the pandemic began to 224,501. No deaths were recorded so the overall total remains 5,579. Wales' infection rate has risen
to 127 cases per 100,000 people based
on the seven days between June 29 and July 5 up on the 122.8 reported on Friday.
Fifteen of Wales' 22 local authorities are now
reporting more than 100 positive cases per 100,000 people. The area with the
highest infection rate in Wales is Wrexham with 320 cases per 100,000 people, up from 312.6 cases on Friday, followed by Flintshire with 230.6 and Conwy with 168.1.
There are 138 people
across Wales in general and acute hospital beds with confirmed, suspected or
recovering cases of coronavirus. Betsi Cadwaladr UHB had the most with 37, followed by Cardiff and Vale UHB
and Aneurin Bevan UHB with 34 each,
Cwm Taf Morgannwg with 27, Hywel Dda
UHB with 4 and Swansea Bay UHB with 2.
The Delta variant has become by far the most
dominant strain in Wales, with Public Health Wales stating on Thursday that 3,666 cases have now been identified a
rise of 1,917 on the 1,749 recorded a week ago.
