The latest update from Public Health Wales (PHW)
recorded 655 more positive cases to
bring the total since the pandemic began to 223,804. One Covid death was reported so the total number of deaths
increases to 5,579. Wales' infection
rate has risen to 122.8 cases per 100,000 people based on the seven days
between June 28 and July 4 up on 117
on Thursday.
Thirteen of Wales' 22 local authorities are now
reporting more than 100 positive cases per 100,000 people. The area with the highest infection rate in Wales is
Wrexham with 312.6 cases per 100,000
people, up from 280.2 cases on
Thursday. This is followed by Flintshire with 240.2 and Conwy with
164.7.
Betsi Cadwaladr UHB had the most
with 37, followed by Cardiff and Vale UHB and Aneurin Bevan UHB with 34 each, Cwm Taf Morgannwg with 27, Hywel Dda UHB with 4 and Swansea Bay UHB with 2.
The Delta variant has become by far the most dominant strain in Wales, with Public Health Wales stating on Thursday that 3,666 cases have now been identified up 1,917 on the 1,749 recorded a week ago.
