A further 438 people have tested
positive for coronavirus the highest daily case numbers reported by Public
Health Wales since February. It brings the total
number of positive cases to 216,030.
In the past week 35.6 per 100,000 people have tested positive for
the virus, up from 32.2 on
Wednesday.
The positivity rate has risen to the highest level since the end
of March, with 2.8% of people
testing positive for Covid-19. The number of new Covid cases reported on
Thursday was the highest since 533
were reported on 19 February. Wales' Covid death toll remains at 5,573 after PHW reported no new deaths.
The most recent death occurred on 19 June and was reported on Wednesday.
The local authority areas with the highest case rates were all in North Wales with Flintshire 99.9% the highest, followed by Conwy 88.7% and Denbighshire 72.1%. The areas with the lowest were Merthyr Tydfil 6.6%, Rhondda Cynon Taf 12% and Blaenau Gwent 12.9%.
New PHW data also shows since
Monday, of the variants of concern or under investigation, there have been 209 new cases of the Delta (B.1.617.2)
variant, 10 of the Kent (B.1.1.7)
variant and one of the South African (B.1.351) variant.
