No new deaths with coronavirus have been reported in Wales on
Friday, reports Public Health Wales (PHW). There have been 118 new cases reported, taking the case
total to 213,642. The total number of Covid deaths remains at 5,571,
with only one death reported in two weeks on Thursday. The Wales case rate has
risen again, climbing to 13.5 per 100,000 people,
up from 12.4 on Thursday. The newly reported cases
include 15 in Denbighshire, 13 in
Cardiff, 11 in Pembrokeshire, 9 in Swansea
and 8 in Neath Port Talbot. The testing positivity rate is
also up to 1.4% from 1.3% on Thursday.
The weekly case rate per 100,000 people remains highest in Conwy at 34.1, where a cluster of the Delta variant has been confirmed. This is followed by Swansea at 24.3 where a cluster has been linked to a city centre pub then Gwynedd at 19.3 and Carmarthenshire on 18.
Before a death was reported on Thursday, figures
showed no deaths had been recorded by a Welsh health board for 14 days. Issues
with more than 200 test results coming back late means PHW is recording a
backlog of positive tests, which make numbers seem much larger than in recent
weeks.
