One further person has died with Covid in Wales, reports Public
Health Wales (PHW). The latest reported death happened on Wednesday and was
reported by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board which covers Bridgend, Merthyr
Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. A total of 5,572 people have now
died with the virus in Wales. PHW reported 115 new cases,
taking the case total to 213,757. Wales' case rate has risen again,
climbing to 15 per 100,000 people, up
from 13.5 on Friday. That is the highest since 16 April but
not unexpected given the easing of restrictions and still well below
the other UK nations and all English regions.
Figures released on Sunday cover 24 hours up to 09:00 on Friday as data is no longer published on Saturday. Monday's data will cover 48 hours up to 09:00 on Sunday.
Of the newly reported cases, 13 were in Cardiff, 12 in Conwy County and 9 in Swansea. Both Merthyr Tydfil and Ceredigion reported no new cases. The testing positivity rate is also up to 1.5% from 1.4% on Friday, but it has been below the key threshold of 5% for more than three months. Currently 86% of communities across Wales are still reporting fewer than two cases a week.
