Another day with no deaths to report...great news...

There have been no deaths of people with coronavirus in Wales for the last nine days, reports Public Health Wales. There were 71 new positive cases reported, taking the total confirmed cases in Wales to 212,999. The total number of deaths in Wales since the outbreak began remains at 5,569.

The case rate in Wales has edged up to 8 per 100,000 over seven days. Conwy remains the highest case rate in Wales and has risen to 23 cases per 100,000. As a result there have been calls to fast track second vaccine doses in the area amid serious concerns over a cluster of the Delta variant, first identified in India, in Llandudno, Llandudno Junction and Penrhyn Bay.

Denbighshire has also risen and is the second highest, alongside Wrexham which has fallen to a case rate of 12.5. Anglesey and Merthyr Tydfil have very low weekly case rates, at just over one positive test every 100,000 people.

Covid-19 vaccine update: 2,169,624 people in Wales have now had their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. 1,181,259 people are now fully vaccinated.
