Alpha, Delta variants are making their way into Wales...Please be aware that the threat is not over yet...

Delta variant  in Wales? 

There have been another 81 cases of the Delta or India variant of concern detected in Wales since last week, bringing the total to 178. For the first time, more Delta variant which is believed to be more transmissible was sequenced since last Thursday's figures compared to the UK Kent or Alpha variant. There were another 68 of that type, taking the total detected so far to 12,744 of Alpha. The figures cover up to Monday. An update is due again on Thursday.

There have been no deaths with Covid for a 13th day reports Public Health Wales. 22 new cases were reported, taking the total to 213,188. Cases across Wales are currently running at an average of 47 a day. The case rate in Wales for the most recent seven days is 10.4 cases per 100,000. It has been within this range of 7 to 10 cases for more than a month.

Conwy has the highest case rate in Wales 27.3 cases per 100,000. It was 140th highest local authority in the UK on Monday. Swansea is next on 19.4 cases per 100,000 people over seven days. Wales has had the lowest Covid case rate of any UK nation for four months.

Covid-19 vaccine update: 2,185,427 people in Wales have now had their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. 1,270,606 people are now fully vaccinated.
