Two further people have died with coronavirus in Wales, according
to the latest daily Public Health Wales (PHW) figures. It brings the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic
to 5,550. One of the deaths was reported by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board area
which covers Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf and the other by
Swansea Bay Health Board area. One person died on Sunday and the other person
died on 11 March. PHW also reported 69 new cases, bringing the total to 211,458.
The fall in Covid cases means fewer people being tracked by the Test, Trace, Protect team, with 65% fewer cases and 71% fewer contacts than a month ago. Only 405 positive cases were eligible for follow-up in the most recent week a 19% drop on the week before; 98% were reached, with 94% reached within 24 hours of referral and 97% were reached within 48 hours. The R-number for Wales the transmission rate, estimating how many people are being infected by one person with Covid is now put at between 0.7 and 1 in Wales.
In terms of vaccines, 1,816,451 people have received their first dose and 732,643 have received both.
