There have been no further
coronavirus-related deaths reported in Wales over the past 24 hours. It is the fourth time since last Wednesday that no-one was
reported by Public Health Wales (PHW) to have died with Covid in Wales as the
overall death toll remains 5,533
people. A further 62 positive tests
were reported as Wales' case rate remains at about the same level as Tuesday at
17.6 infections per 100,000 people. Five counties reported
no new cases.
Of the 62 new coronavirus cases reported on Wednesday, 12 were reported in Cardiff, 8 in Swansea and 7 in Rhondda Cynon Taff. Five local authority areas Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Ceredigion reported no new cases. Swansea now has the highest case rate in the country, with 32.4 new infections per 100,000 people over the past seven days, followed by Cardiff 31.3 , Anglesey 28.6 and Gwynedd 28.1. Monmouthshire (1.1) has the lowest case rate of any Welsh council area after recording just one new infection in the past seven days.
More than 1.6
million people have now had their first Covid vaccine while almost 550,000 people have had both doses.
