Two further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Wales
over the past 24 hours. It takes the total number of patients who have
died with the virus in Wales to 5,533, according to Public Health
Wales (PHW) figures. A further 69 positive tests were also
reported, as Wales' case rate dropped slightly to 17.4 infections
per 100,000 people over the past seven days. Of the 69 new
coronavirus cases reported on Tuesday, 16 were reported in
Swansea, 12 in Cardiff and 11 in Newport.
Six local authority areas Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Conwy and Ceredigion reported no new cases. Swansea now has the highest case rate in the country, with 32.8 new infections per 100,000 people over the past seven days, followed by Cardiff 31.6 and Anglesey 28.6. Monmouthshire 1.1 has the lowest case rate of any Welsh council area after recording just one new infection in the past seven days.
The number of first vaccine doses given has now passed 1.6 million. It means 50.8% of the Welsh population have now had their first jab. In total, 537,195 people in Wales have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
