No update on Saturday 17th April...Next update from Public Health Wales Sunday 18th April...
There have been no further Covid-related deaths reported in Wales over the past 24 hours. It is the seventh time since 20 March where no deaths have occurred, according to Public Health Wales (PHW). In Wales, 5,535 people have died with coronavirus and another 48 positive tests were reported as Wales' seven-day case rate has fallen to 16.7 cases per 100,000 people. Four counties Blaenau Gwent, Denbighshire, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan reported no new cases while Swansea reported the most with 10.
Swansea has the highest case rate in Wales, having risen from 27.9 to 29.2 new infections per 100,000 people over the past seven days. This is followed by Cardiff 28.6, Newport 25.2, Anglesey 24.3 and Gwynedd 24.1. Monmouthshire 1.1 has the lowest case rate of any Welsh council area after recording just one new infection in the past seven days and is also still the fifth lowest in the UK. Ceredigion 4.1, Denbighshire 6.3 and Torfaen 6.4 are the other areas with the lowest rates in Wales.
So far more than 1.6 million people have now had
their first Covid vaccine, 52.6% of the Welsh population, while almost 575,000
people equating to 18.2% have had both doses. Both these percentages are ahead of the other
UK nations.

Thought for the Day…
We are aware the coronavirus vaccine stops us
from becoming seriously ill, but we don't know if it can stop people from
passing the virus to others. Even after vaccination, everyone still needs to
follow the rules, like keeping 2m and self-isolating if contact has been made
with a positive case.
