Supermarkets can sell non-essential
items and garden centres can open in Wales from today in a further slight
easing of Covid lockdown rules. Shops that have
already been open, but had non-essential aisles cordoned off, can now sell
anything, but shops that only sell non-essential items will remain closed until
12 April. Garden centres will open their doors to customers for the first time since lockdown began in December. Shops must have strict Covid protocols.
There have been no new deaths with coronavirus reported to Public
Health Wales. It means the total number reported to the health body since
the pandemic began remains at 5,488. A further 150 cases have been reported in
the past 24 hours, taking the total number of positive tests to 207,992. It
means the seven-day coronavirus case rate in Wales once again remains at 42
cases per 100,000 people.
The local authority with the highest case rates for the seven-day period up until 17 March remains Merthyr Tydfil at 121 cases per 100,000, although it has fallen from 129.3 the previous day. This is again followed by Anglesey, down to 107.1 from 114.2 cases per 100,000 people and then Conwy which remains at 68.3. The lowest case rates are seen in Ceredigion 11, Monmouthshire down from 18 to 15.9 and Bridgend 17.7.
The number of people who have received their first
dose of the coronavirus vaccine now stands at 1,273,186 a rise of 14,417 on
