Six more people have died with coronavirus in Wales, reports
Public Health Wales. There have now been 5,488 deaths of people
with Covid reported to PHW since the start of the pandemic. Another 196 cases
have also been reported in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of
positive tests to 207,842. The seven-day coronavirus case rate in
Wales remains at 42 cases per 100,000 people.
3 of the deaths were in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area. This takes the total number of deaths in the Health Board area to 923. Single deaths were reported by the Aneurin Bevan Health Board area, Cwm Taf Health Board area and Swansea Bay Health Board area.
The local authority with the highest case rates for
the seven-day period up until 16 March was Merthyr Tydfil with 129 cases per 100,000. This is followed by Anglesey with 114.2 cases per 100,000
people and Conwy 68.3. The lowest
case rates are seen in Ceredigion 11
Bridgend 17.7, Monmouthshire 18.
The number of people who have received their first
dose of the coronavirus vaccine now stands at 1,258,769 - a rise of 26,939 on
the previous day. A further 9,429 received their second dose taking the total
to 338,959 having had both doses.

Just because
you’ve had the vaccine, does not mean it is safe to ignore the rules and
guidelines. It is not known whether it will stop someone catching and passing
on the virus, but we do expect it to reduce this risk. So, it is still
important to follow the guidance in your local area to protect others.
