Single figure deaths reported today... Still too many...

Today another 8 people have died with coronavirus in Wales, reports Public Health Wales. It takes the total number of Covid-related deaths to 5,145. There have also been a further 275 cases reported, with Wales' overall case rate falling to 88 for every 100,000 people.


There were 3 new deaths in Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board area, which has the highest number of deaths in Wales at 1,446. There were 2 reported in both Aneurin Bevan Health Board and Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, and 1 in Powys Health Board. PHW reported that Powys has the lowest deaths in Wales, but the numbers do not account for people who have died over the border. There were no reported deaths in Hywel Dda Health Board area.

Wales' case rates for Covid have dropped since Monday from 92 cases per 100,000 people to 88, with 16 out of Wales' 22 local authorities now under 100.

 

Wrexham still has the highest case rate in Wales, with 137.5 per 100,000 people. This is followed by Flintshire 127.5 and Powys 117. The lowest case rates are seen in Bridgend 55.8, Pembrokeshire 40.5 and Ceredigion 24.8.

 

The total number of people in Wales who have had their first dose of a Covid vaccine is 795,927. 2nd Covid jab doses have been given to 7,251 people.
