Public Health Wales
(PHW) is now also providing daily updates of the number of people who have had
a vaccine, which currently stands at 91,239.
There have now been more than 5,100 deaths in
Wales involving Covid-19 since the pandemic began. The latest weekly figures from the Office for
National Statistics (ONS) show 310
deaths in the week ending 1 January, which are 32 more than the week before.
North Wales appears
to be of concern; Wrexham still has the highest case rate in Wales, rising very
slightly to 853.2 cases per 100,000 people. It is followed by neighbouring
Flintshire, which has dropped from 707.2 cases per 100,000 people on Monday to
682.3.
Around half of patients admitted to Welsh intensive
care units during the second wave of the pandemic have died, a study has found.
The Intensive Care National Audit and Research
Centre (ICNARC) found men aged in their 60s were more likely to need intensive
care. It also found those from Asian backgrounds and deprived areas were
disproportionately affected.
