There have been 4,327 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 761,054. There were 11 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,782. The latest infection rate for the seven days up to January 19 now stands at 473.3 cases for every 100,000 people up on the 472 recorded on Sunday. It is the first time the infection rate has risen since the peak of the Omicron wave between December 27 and January 2. authority with the highest infection rate for the seven days between January 13
and January 19 was Newport with 744.8
cases per 100,000, followed by Merthyr Tydfil with 624.9 and Blaenau Gwent with 611.2.
Hywel Dda Health Board shows a significant rise as there were 459 cases
reported today with 296 in Carmarthenshire, 125 in
Pembrokeshire and 38 in Ceredigion. As of January 21 there were 1,003 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus
(confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 998 on January 20.
