Less cases and deaths reported today... but is it going to be a lasting trend...time will tell...

There have been 1,977 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 763,031. There were coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,784.  The latest infection rate based on PCR tests, for the seven days up to January 20, now stands at 483.7 cases for every 100,000 people up on the 473.3 recorded on Monday. The local authority with the highest infection rate for the seven days between January 14 and January 20 was Newport with 795.2 cases per 100,000, followed by Neath Port Talbot with 608.4 and Merthyr Tydfil with 603.4.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 241 cases reported today with 173 in Carmarthenshire, 56 in Pembrokeshire and 12 in Ceredigion. As of January 24 there were 1,016 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 1,003 on January 21.
