No respite for Wales...numbers up in South Wales today...end of January on the horizon...

There have been 3,007 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 768,744. There were 10 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,798The latest infection rate based on PCR tests, for the seven days up to January 22, now stands at 508.7 cases for every 100,000 people up on the 496.3 recorded on Wednesday. It is the fourth day in a row that the infection rate is reported to have risen. For more information on the Covid figures released on Thursday go to WalesOnline...

The local authority with the highest infection rate for the seven days between January 16 and January 22 was Newport with 872.8 cases per 100,000, followed by Carmarthenshire with 627.7 and Merthyr Tydfil with 626.6.

Hywel Dda Health Board has reported 384 cases  today with 246 in Carmarthenshire, 105 in Pembrokeshire and 33 in Ceredigion. As of January 26 there were 1,036 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 959 on January 25.
