Last Sunday in January...Some high figures of new cases reported in South Wales...and people are still dying... Let us start February with a hint of normality...

There have been 2,840 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 774,356. There were 8 coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,812The latest infection rate based on PCR tests, for the seven days up to January 24, now stands at 527.8 cases for every 100,000 people up on the 516.3 recorded on Friday. The local authority with the highest infection rate for the seven days between January 18 and January 24 was Newport with 899.9 cases per 100,000, followed by Carmarthenshire with 660.1 and Cardiff with 627.4.

Hywel Dda Health Board shows 272 cases reported today with 142 in Carmarthenshire, 78 in Pembrokeshire and 52 in Ceredigion. As of January 27 there were 1,072 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 1,036 on January 26.
