End of another week...The first case of the Omicron Covid variant has been confirmed in Wales....

There have been 2,356 new cases of coronavirus reported today by PHW bringing the total cases to 516,146. There were coronavirus deaths reported by PHW so the total number of deaths has risen to 6,428. The infection rate in Wales now stands at 469.9 per 100,000 people a rise on the 464.5 reported on Thursday.  For more information on the Covid figures released on Friday go to Wales Online...

The area with the highest infection rate is Gwynedd with 878.3 cases per 100,000 people followed by the Vale of Glamorgan with 646.8 and Anglesey with 619.6 cases per 100,000 people. Hywel Dda Health Board shows 212 cases reported today with 108 in Carmarthenshire, 79 in Pembrokeshire and 25 in Ceredigion.

As of December 2 there were 558 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronavirus (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 555 reported on December 1.
