The weekly case rate in Wales has risen
as a further 141 infections were recorded. The rate is now at
22.2 infections per 100,000 people, a rise from 20.1 on Tuesday. However no new
deaths were reported on Wednesday, with Wales' total standing at 5,572. Conwy
has the highest case rate in Wales 68.3, followed by Denbighshire 56.4 and
Wrexham 32.4.
Overall there were 2 deaths of Covid in the latest week in Wales according to ONS, they occurred in hospitals involving patients from Powys and Wrexham. This is one fewer than last week and the lowest total we have seen since early September. The trend has been for a steady decline and the weekly total is 89% fewer Covid deaths than registered two months ago. Public Health Wales' own daily figures reported no further deaths its total number of deaths remains at 5,572.
Every local authority in Wales except for Blaenau Gwent and Merthyr Tydfil reported new cases on Wednesday, though north Wales has seen the largest numbers. The new cases include 24 in Conwy, 19 in Cardiff, and 16 each in Vale of Glamorgan and Flintshire. The weekly case rate per 100,000 people remains highest in Conwy County, having risen again to 68.3. But Merthyr Tydfil, which before Christmas had the UK's highest case rate, now, has the lowest in Wales on 6.6 cases per 100,000. The Wales case rate has risen to 22.2 cases per 100,000, its highest point since 4 April.
