No further deaths today with coronavirus
in Wales, reports Public Health Wales. PHW reported 163 new cases, bringing the total to 214,545. Of the new cases, there
were 23 in both Cardiff and
Flintshire, 15 in Conwy and 14 in Wrexham. The number of people who
have died with the virus in Wales remains at 5,572. The case rate is 23.6
infections per 100,000 people, a
rise from 22.5 reported on Thursday.
Positive tests are running at an average of 101 per day, compared to 56
in the previous week.
The weekly case rate per 100,000 people remains highest in Conwy
County, where a cluster of cases of the Delta variant has been confirmed,
having risen again to 82.8 from 71.7 on Thursday. That is followed by
Denbighshire on 77.3 and Flintshire
on 38.4. There are a higher
incidence of cases among the under 25s and this also shows up in Covid data for
schools. There were 62 positive
tests among school pupils and staff in North Wales in the most recent seven-day
period out of 105 across Wales, reported by Public Health Wales. They include 21 in Conwy, 15 in Denbighshire and 13
in Flintshire. Half of the 204 cases
linked to pupils and staff in Wales in the last three weeks were in the Betsi
Cadwaladr area.
The area with the lowest case rate currently is Powys 8.3 cases per 100,000, the second lowest in the mainland UK. This is followed by
Blaenau Gwent at 8.6 and Merthyr
Tydfil at 9.9.
