The case rate in Wales has risen once
again after 484 new infections were reported by Public Health Wales
(PHW) on Monday. The figures released by PHW on a Monday cover a 48-hour
period, so the number of new cases is often higher. The number of new
infections per 100,000 over the most recent seven-day period now stands at 29, compared to less than 10 at the
start of June. No new deaths were reported, with the figure remaining at 5,572. The most recent Covid-related
death was on 9 June, according to PHW data.
Conwy 91.3 has the highest case rate in Wales, followed by Denbighshire 77.3 and Flintshire 73.7. Flintshire's case rate has increased significantly since it was last reported on Sunday, jumping from 47.4 to 73.7, with 70 new positive cases confirmed. Meanwhile, Pembrokeshire Council has set up a mobile testing unit in Tenby after a cluster of 22 cases in the town. Twelve of Wales' 22 local authority areas saw a rise in their case rates, three authorities remained the same and seven saw a drop. Merthyr Tydfil 6.6 and Blaenau Gwent 7.2 have the lowest case rates in the country. Meanwhile, the seven day positivity rate - the percentage of Covid tests which came back positive rose from 2.5% to 2.6% in the latest figures.
