Swansea Bay University Health Board has urged caution as cases of the Indian variant of Covid have risen to 28 in Wales. The Health Board said a small number of cases of the variant had been
confirmed. No-one has been admitted to hospital with Covid in that area for six
days and Public Health Wales reported two new Covid cases there on Thursday.
But the health board reminded people to keep socially distancing and get their
Covid-19 vaccination. People were urged not to become complacent.
3 further people have died with Covid in
Wales, reports Public Health Wales (PHW). The
total overall that has died with the virus in Wales is now 5,564. The latest deaths were reported
in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area, Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board area
and Hywel Dda Health Board area. The
current weekly infection rate in Wales stands at 9.5 cases for every 100,000
people in Wales. PHW also reported 28
new positive cases, bringing the total to 212,388.
The local authority areas with the highest seven-day case rates are Newport 29.1, Cardiff 18 and Wrexham 14. Anglesey
and Rhondda Cynon Taf had the lowest, with 2.9,
followed by Denbighshire with 3.1.
2,069,689 people in Wales have now had their first dose of the
coronavirus vaccine. 969,682 people
are now fully vaccinated.
