One more person has died with Covid-19 in Wales, reports Public
Health Wales (PHW). It means the total number of deaths reported by PHW is
at 5,552. A further 34 new cases means the
seven-day rate of infection now stands at 9.8 for every 100,000 people
in Wales. The total number of people in Wales who have tested positive since
the start of the pandemic now stands at 211,726.
But Denbighshire, in North Wales, saw no new cases of Covid-19 in the week to 1 May, the first time this has happened anywhere in Wales since August. Of the new cases, seven were reported in Cardiff, with three reported in Ceredigion, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire and Powys. The areas with the lowest case rates are Denbighshire, followed by Ceredigion, with 2.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to 1 May, and Blaenau Gwent 2.9. The highest rates of infection are currently in Newport 25.9, Wrexham 17.7 and Cardiff 12.8.
The number of individuals given a
first dose of a Covid vaccine now stands at 1,884,372 and 798,925 has
received the full two-dose course.
