On St Patrick’s Day, 8 people have died with
coronavirus in Wales, reports Public Health Wales. The total now is now 5,463 deaths of people with Covid
reported to PHW since the start of the pandemic. Another 145 cases
have also been reported, taking the total number of positive tests to 206,940.
The seven-day coronavirus case rate in Wales stands at 43 for
every 100,000 people. 4 deaths were reported
in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board area. Aneurin Bevan, Cwm Taf
Morgannwg, Cardiff and Vale and Hywel Dda Health Board areas each
reported 1 death.
The case rate in Merthyr Tydfil continues to rise, up from 147.5 on Tuesday to 155.8 per 100,000 people as of Wednesday, with the community again having the highest case rate in Wales. This is the highest point reached locally in the last six weeks, but still a long way from the levels seen in previous months. Gellideg and Merthyr Town is the local hotpot with 47 cases in the past week, a rate of 668.3 per 100,000 of the population.
The other localised hotspots in Wales where case rates are above 200 per 100,000 are in Penrhyn Bay, Conwy County, and Holyhead, Anglesey, Abersoch and Aberdaron, Gwynedd. Flint South West and Flint North East, in Flintshire, Machen, Caerphilly County, Llain-goch and Valley on Anglesey, and Porth West in Rhondda Cynon Taf, also have case rates over 200 per 100,000. The second highest case rate for Wales is in Anglesey, where it has reached 122.8. For local authority areas, Ceredigion 5.5 has the lowest number of cases followed by Pembrokeshire 15.1 and Monmouthshire 15.9.
The number of people who have received their first
dose of the coronavirus vaccine now stands at 1,157,251, with 289,185
having had both doses.
