Deaths up a notch today...a little hiccup in the route to freedom from the shackles of Lockdown...

Another 12 people have died with coronavirus, reports Public Health Wales today. It takes the total number of Covid-related deaths reported by PHW to 5,356. A further 208 cases were also reported on as Wales' overall case rate fell again to 57 for every 100,000 people.

Of the newly reported deaths, 4 were in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board area, which covers Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Bridgend. 3 of the deaths were in the Cardiff and Vale Health Board area while 2 were in the Swansea Bay Health Board area. 1 death was reported in the Aneurin Bevan Health Board area, which covers South-East Wales, 1 in Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area in North Wales and also 1 in the Hywel Dda Health Board area of West Wales.


Caerphilly County has the third highest rate after a rise to 80.1 cases per 100,000 people. Caerphilly and Gwynedd were the only counties to see an increase in case rate on Wednesday, while Anglesey, Powys and Ceredigion all remained the same. Ceredigion continues to have the lowest case rate 24.8 and is closely followed by Pembrokeshire 25.4. Eight local authorities have case rates below 50 per 100,000 people.


More than 21,000 new vaccine doses were also administered, with 13,065 of those receiving their second jab.
