Another 45 people have died in Wales with coronavirus, reports Public Health Wales. Deaths of people with Covid-19 in Wales now is 4,912. There were also 399 new Covid infections reported in the last 24 hour period, taking the total number of cases to 194,924.
There were 21 deaths reported in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg area, the Health Board that covers Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil. 7 deaths were confirmed in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area in North Wales, 5 in the Cardiff and Vale area, 4 in Aneurin Bevan Health Board which covers South-East Wales, and 4 in Swansea Bay Health Board area and 3 deaths in Hywel Dda Health Board area.
Wrexham
continues to be the local authority area with the highest case rate, 309.7 people per 100,000 population have tested positive for the virus in the past
seven days, with Flintshire (245.9)
second. The areas with the lowest case rate are Ceredigion
with 50.9 per 100,000 people, followed by Gwynedd with 75.5 and Monmouthshire with 82.5.
Merthyr Tydfil, which had the highest Covid case rate in the UK before
Christmas, recorded a seven day average of 84.5,
making it the area with the fourth lowest case rate in Wales. This compares to
a Wales-wide case rate of 130, per 100,000 of the population, according to
figures published today.
Schools back after half term...
Wales is not yet in a position
to allow all pupils to return to school, Kirsty Williams said today. Pupils aged three to seven would be back
at school from 22 February, along with some older children on vocational
courses, but no timetable has yet been given for the return of other children,
she added there were no plans to vaccinate teachers ahead of other priority
groups. Announcing the news, she said we are not yet in a position to be
able to see a full return to school for every learner.
