As the year comes to a close and the shadow of 2021 becomes reality at midnight tonight, let us take a minute to think about the last nine months and the toll it has taken on family life. There are many heroes out there that have been a godsend to thousands over this time, key workers and volunteers are near the top of the list but there are two groups that without doubt will have the praise of the population for their efforts and hard work.
NHS and Social Care Staff have been outstanding during this pandemic and continue to do so but are becoming less resilient and creaking under the strain of responsibility that is being placed on their shoulders. The role of the NHS staff and the care and support worker has never been a job for those looking for recognition.
2021 will arrive and the wish of many will be that there is a dawn breaking and the New Year will bring release from the grip of the malignant pandemic. Legend has it that there is always darkness before the dawn and the dawn in this case is the availability and speed that the vaccine is shared.
Another 65 deaths reported today, both Aneurin Bevan and Swansea Bay Health Boards recorded the highest number of new coronavirus-related deaths with 14 each. There were 11 in both the Hywel Dda and Cwm Taf Morgannwg areas and nine in Cardiff and Vale. The Betsi Cadwaladr Board covering North Wales recorded six new deaths.
