Start of the Six Nations in Wales today...We only wish we could kick the virus into touch...

Another 28 people have died in Wales with coronavirus, reports Public Health Wales. It takes the total number of deaths of people with Covid-19 in Wales to 4,989. There were also 461 new Covid infections reported in the last 24 hour period, taking the total number of cases to 196,060.

8 deaths were reported in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area covering North Wales. 6 deaths were confirmed in the Cardiff and Vale Health Board area, with 5 in Cwm Taf Morgannwg and 4 in both the Aneurin Bevan and Hywel Dda Health Board areas, and 1 in Powys.


Wrexham continues to be the local authority area with the highest case rate - 247.9 people per 100,000 population have tested positive for the virus in the past seven days, Flintshire is next with a rate of 231.9.

 

The areas with the lowest case rate are Ceredigion with 53.6 per 100,000 people, followed by Gwynedd with 66.6 and Pembrokeshire with 73.1. This compares to a Wales-wide case rate of 119 per 100,000 of the population, according to figures published on Sunday.


More than half a million people have now received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in Wales with 589,622 people now having had the jab. On Saturday 32,625 people were vaccinated, meaning more than 18.7% of the population have been inoculated. Public Health Wales figures show 2,606 have also received their second dose of the Covid vaccine.
