Much lower number of deaths in Wales today but still 8 too many... Let's get the jabs done...

A further 8 people have died in Wales with coronavirus, reports Public Health Wales (PHW). There were also 1,106 new Covid infections reported, taking the total number of cases to 182,599Tuesday's reports showed there were 3 deaths each in Cwm Taf Morgannwg and Swansea Bay Health Board areas, and 2 in Aneurin Bevan.

The case rate across Wales has fallen from 306 to 295 cases per 100,000 people. PHW said the total number of deaths of confirmed Covid cases in hospitals and care homes in Wales has reached 4,302 since the start of the pandemic.


Sadly though a further 1,610 people have died in the UK within 28 days of a positive Covid test the biggest figure reported in a single day since the pandemic began.

Vaccination Update:


The number of people to have received their first jab of the vaccine in the country now stands at 161,932.

 

More than 18,000 people across the counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire have now received a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. Hywel Dda University Health Board, which manages healthcare in all three counties, has published statistics on its vaccine roll-out programme across the region.

Below is a breakdown of what percentage of each priority group has already been vaccinated: 

  • Care home residents - 25.5%
  • Care home workers - 38.4%
  • People aged 80 and over - 8.8%
  • Healthcare workers - 42%
  • Social care workers - 8.1%

Starting this week, all GP practices in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire will receive a supply of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. Over the weekend, one surgery in Carmarthen confirmed that its roll-out programme for patients aged 80 and over was beginning at a local rugby club.


For care home, health service and social care staff, there are already vaccination centres in Carmarthen and Cardigan, while an additional one has now opened in Haverfordwest.

Additional centres for health staff will open in Llanelli and Aberystwyth in the next few days, and mass vaccination centres for the public will open in Llanelli, Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth in the coming weeks.
